Having taken several fishing trips to southeast Alaska, Prince William Sound, and Homer, I received a tip from a fishing guide on the Columbia River. Go to Foxtail Lodge. Well, I took the advice five years ago, and have been back each year since.
Larsen Bay doesn't have the fishing pressure of the usual destinations you read about in fishing magazines, and that translates into an experience that is more of what I had hoped Alaska to be when I first started dreaming of taking my first Alaskan fishing trip. Everyone wants a successful trip, and I simply have not done better anywhere else.
If fishing success was the only criteria used to define the quality of the trip, you could stop right there, but that is only half the story. The moment you arrive, you are made to feel at home. The meals are wonderful, and the evening conversations are worth the trip alone. The owner operator, Jerre Munson, is part-time chef, fishing guide, and full time host, making sure your experience is truly a vacation. I have recommended Foxtail to many people, and anyone that has been there with me, either is, or is going to be, a repeat customer.
This was our first trip to Alaska and it will not be our last. We had an amazing time with Jerre and his crew. They are first class all the way around. The accommodations were wonderful, the food was fantastic and the fishing was off the hook. I would (and have) recommend Foxtail Lodge to anyone looking to experience Alaska and the wonderful wildlife and people it has to offer.
